I’m working on putting together illustrations for a family cookbook and thought it might be fun to share the cover art work. This particular cookbook is unusual in that it focuses mostly on baked and sweet treats with only a few main course items. The “mixed blessings” name is a pun on the mixing aspect of course but as well, the inclusion of food related family sayings which have been passed down. Here’s one from my British grandmother to give you an idea of the sort of thing I’m talking about – although they’re not all in poetic form!
“Never say die, never tell a lie.
Never put your finger in another person’s pie.
Unless your finger is so very, very clean,
That the other person’s pie will be improved.”
