A trend which started up a few years ago is the flowering or blooming teas. It is a lovely idea – blossoms hand-wrapped in green tea leaves which expand to reveal the flower within once the hot water is poured over. The flowers range from jasmine – a natural choice – to the even more exotic sounding amaranth and osmanthus. Brewing the flowering teas in a glass teapot will allow maximum visual enjoyment.

The appearance never fails to delight but I am not as fond of the flavour as of some other teas – I am a bit of a purist when it comes to tea. This cup however, was gentle and had a warmth on the tongue which seemed to speak of summers gone by. It made a welcome contrast to the wet flakes of snow coming down outside despite our official spring status.

  1. Lovely picture! I can almost smell the tea. 2 cm of snow on the ground here 😦

  2. Thanks!
    Let’s hope it melts soon!
