a wintery doodle for Christmas…

wintery togetherness

A quick doodle to celebrate the season… so busy with everything related to said season that I haven’t been posting much here and the buffer for Albion is getting smaller. Hopefully I can catch back up over the holidays.

Wishing you the Best of the Season and a Wonderful New Year.

UPDATE: New sonnet from Tom to capture both the cold and the warmth of winter…

The winter night in glinting diamond silence
sparkles in cold light, the Solstice Moon
glows bright upon the hills with blue fluorescence
across the open spaces deeply strewn
with virgin snow: a wonderland of ice
where lovers might take pause to contemplate
the beauty of this frozen paradise
where nothing moves and everything awaits.
Their hands are joined within a single glove
the touch of skin a promise for the night
to come while silently the stars above
reflect the frozen diamonds of the night.
One single thing belies the winter the cold:
The warmth of hands that other hands enfold

This is a gorgeous image, and I wanted something that would catch the wonderful contrast between the two lovers and the beautiful but cold and inhospitable world. The poem fought me every inch of the way, and I’m still far from happy with it, but then, I rarely am!

  2. Hey Hillary,
hope you are “still alive”. We’re doing ok in Oman. i managed to find the ingredients and got up the courage to make Carol’s now world famous “Corn Oat Bread” on my Bday the other day for our annual Vin et Fromage Soiree. (the last time i found molasses and corn meal and tried to make it, it didn’t rise so i had two bricks on my hand… )
just noticed i had a letter to the Ed published in TIME: What About Other Protests? http://ti.me/siDYh2
Tried to find you on FB the other day, have you disappeared?
Kim and i gave our youngest son (now 14) an easel and a set of acrylic paints and brushes for Christmas. Of all of our children he shows the greatest promise as an artist.
And finally, i know you’re Buddhist but i wanna share this Christmas story with you: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/25/opinion/sunday/dowd-a-victorian-christmas.html?ref=maureendowd

Joyeux Noel greetings to all your family!

    rob

    1. Very cool to hear from you! Glad all is well in Oman. I will definitely tell my parents about your bread adventures!! I have never been on FB but surprisingly am recently on Twitter (hjfarmer) let me know so I can follow you if you’re there too. Very nice to see that one of your kids shows artistic promise. How is the musician doing??
All the very best for Christmas and the New Year!
