I started doing a fun series of birds in December. I plan to post one per day for the “Twelve Days of Christmas” with a short poem from Tom for each. Hope you enjoy!
Upon a Christmas Day a tree
must a tannenbaum to be
and upon its branch I see
that life is good and I am free!

I love chickadees SOOOOO much!! You will be sitting there, and one will land in a nearby branch and start “chicka-dee-dee-dee-dee!” – ing away. They always seem to start doing it when other birds start chirping away in the morning, like they don’t want to miss out on any of the “news”.
I love them too. They were more common where I lived growing up in Ontario than here but the are still around. The small birds I see more often are juncos – hmmm I really need to paint one!
I didn;t even think about the juncos and various finches. You HAVE to paint a junco or two. I used to put out Niger seed feeders that they would sit at all day, battling for pegs with the redpolls. They went absolutely berserk for Niger seeds. All that tasty seed oil and energy… it was so fun watch them arriving and leaving, in constant skirmish mode all day.
We don’t have feeders right now – there seems to be lots of gleaning on all the trees for them. …it’s going to be a while before I get to an end of birds to paint! 🙂
