cutie kitties…

cute and sleepy

Time for some pure cute – this was inspired appropriately by an image from Cute Overload – font of much cuteness… in particular, check out this link to the new Simon’s Cat episode being pounced by the Easter bunny!

UDATE: Finally! these cute kitties get their own poem 😀

Now who is this disturbing us
from sleepy kitten dreams?
Can’t a cat get forty winks
without this constant stream
of humans interrupting us
to coo and gawk and stare
while wobbling on your goofy legs
like stilted men at fairs?

We’re quite content here, cuddled up
within the balmy shade
of this our tree. Don’t interrupt!
Our sleep is carefully made
of soft companions, special place,
the angle of the sun;
so don’t disturb our feline dreams,
just move along now, run!

plum blossom haiku…with cat!

kitten catching plum blossoms

Something a little different graphically today for me. Enough of snow and cold! Time for spring! Here’s another haiku by Issa in 1813 – I like that cats feature prominently in his work – must have been a great guy 🙂

by the farm cat…
plum blossoms

If someone wants to suggest alternative phrasing…

Ying strikes a pretty pose
Ying strikes a pretty pose

Ying is a dainty, graceful young cat. Her name which means “shadow” was chosen because of her tendency to follow her sister around and because from certain angles, she disappears. She has become more independent since we first got her and has become willing to initiate mischief all on her own!

Both kitties are enjoying the warmer weather which heralds the arrival of birds to be observed from newly open windows – what fun!

Ming after visit to the vet
Ming after visit to the vet

We got two kittens, little sisters, right after Christmas and they have been all kinds of fun. I thought it was about time that I tried to do their kitty portraits. Ming today and Ying tomorrow. Since we had to take them to the vet for their final booster shots last night, Ming’s expression is not the happiest but usually she’s a very happy, energetic cat. We chose her name – Ming – because it means “bright”. She’s definitely a clever cat. She likes it when the tap drips and has figured out that the water runs when we turn the faucet so she tries to butt with her head to turn it on her own. Luckily it’s too stiff for her or there’d be water everywhere!

a little bit about me…

attempted self-portrait
attempted self-portrait

Well, I suppose that not everyone visiting this site will already know me – at least eventually! So with that in mind, here’s the precis: I was born… just kidding. Most important – I find myself with more spare time than usual just at the moment and so have started this blog up. I think that may not be unique given the current economic climate. At any rate, the point is to make something good out of something bad whenever possible! Also, a kitten has fallen asleep on my lap and so I have to stay here until she wakes up – could make for one long post! Maybe I will post some kitten pictures at a later date. If you need a fix of cuteness in the meantime, don’t miss out on – it’s ridiculous!
