Little Brown Bat

Little Brown Bat (4″ x 4″ oil on raised panel)

This – dare I say – cute little brown bat was painted as a commission. It was a Christmas gift for someone who loves bats and I am happy to say that everyone was pleased! I had never painted a bat before and honestly was a bit uneasy about it …but the more I researched bats, the more I came to appreciate them.

Woolly Bear

I’ve always thought woolly bears were cute and of course like most of us, tried to predict the severity of the winter by looking at the width of its colour bands. This was a bit of a challenge – how do you make a creature without a face engaging? Well, I made it as fuzzy as possible and I think it works!

Tree frog

Tree frogs are commons where I live now on the west coast. I had never seen one until I moved here! They are as adorable as a frog can be – at least in part because they are so tiny. This past summer, we had one who liked to hang out in our potted plants on the deck. It was such a dry summer – they were likely enjoying the moisture from my watering.
